Cedar City Downtown Farmer’s Market Update
Here’s the latest on the Cedar City Downtown Farmer’s Market.
New location: Right across from Mike’s Tavern (how convenient). The new location is in the parking lot at 50W and Hoover St. Now, Hoover is one-way coming off of Main St. 50W is a two-way street. We’re occupying the entire NW section of the parking lot. There are several large trees providing shade for most of the market from the time we start.
The set-up is a bit different this year. Those of us considered “truck farmers” are all in one row, with our booths facing west. We’re on the east side of the market and we will have our trucks roped off, so there is no access between us. Depending upon who has what, we’ll expand the length or contract as necessary.
On that row, you’ll find Randy, a truck farmer from Enoch (also the UDAF inspector), a new gal who’s friends with Pam from Marigold Farms, then Marigold Farms, Four Country Gals, Cricket Song Farms, and Jill’s sister, Shelly from Leeds. She brings the melons up from Stirling Farms (her boys work there).
The market begins on July 25, just one day after Pioneer Day. It will begin at 4pm and be open until 7pm. Weather permitting, we’ll be there all 12 weeks.
We’re still planting here in Beryl. The low last night was 33 degrees outside, and 37 degrees in the greenhouse. Slowly but surely, we’ll get everything into the ground. So far we’ve either planted or set out red and green cabbage, part of the cauliflower, part of the broccoli, rainbow chard, kale, assorted sunflowers, garlic, potatoes, jalapeno peppers, assorted varieties of basil, rosemary, lemon thyme, and chives.
Soon we’ll be moving another 10 flats of seedlings to the gardens. They include spaghetti squash (we promise), green peppers, tomatoes, more basil, tomatoes (four kinds including cherry mater’s), butternut squash and pumpkins.
Then we’ll also set out the celery, and plant the rest of the seeds. That includes zucchini squash, carrots, radishes, green beans, assorted lettuces, arugula, and green beans.
Here’s to a prosperous Cedar City Downtown Farmer’s Market!
